Weeks Major Midgets Players Do Well At QMJHL Draft

The annual Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Draft was held in Drummondville, Que, on June 5th, and when it was over six (6) players from the Weeks Major Midget Hockey Club had been selected. The top local player selected was 15 year-old Stellarton native, Brent Turnbull, who was selected in the first round, 13th over-all, by the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Turnbull, who had enjoyed a stellar rookie season with Weeks last season, was deservedly highly touted as the draft day approached. The fact that the Titan, who had only one pick in the first four rounds selected Turnbull, is a testament to his ability and skill. Next selected was 16 year-old Weeks defenceman Robert Davis, who was selected in the 6th round, 92nd over-all, by Acadie-Bathurst. Davis, from Five Islands, a 2009 Weeks Crusher draft pick, was an all-star defencemen this past season in the NSMMHL. In the 10th round, 166th over-all, the Roumouski Oceanic selected 2nd year Weeks forward Garrett Holmes of MacLellan’s Brook. The talented Holmes was a Weeks Crushers territorial selection in 2009. The P.E.I. Rocket selected 2nd year Weeks defenceman Cal Gloade of Truro in the 11th round, 190th over-all. Right behind him the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles selected 2nd year defencemen Matt Symes of Truro, 191st over-all. Both Gloade and Symes have been key players on the Weeks Major Midget blue line the last two seasons. Rounding out the Weeks players selected was 16 year-old forward Luke Warner of Amherst, who was selected in the 12th round, 197th over-all by the Halifax Mooseheads. Warner has been a key energy player the last two seasons for the Weeks Major Midgets.

“It is a true testament to how hard these guys worked all season”, stated Weeks Major Midget Head Coach David MacIntyre. “Our Organization’s goal is to develop young men, as hockey players and most importantly as people, and help them move on to the next level.” Weeks Hockey Organization President, Wade Taylor said “We are very pleased for these young men, and proud of their accomplishment to get drafted. We had the highest number of players drafted out of all the teams in Atlantic Canada, which is a great honor to the players and represents our program very well.”

The Management, staff and Board of Directors of the Weeks Hockey Organization wish all these young men the very best in their futures, both on and off the ice.
